3D artist and filmmaker Jeremy Kamal creates modern geomyths using animation, sound, and media installation. His narrative environments challenge our understanding of ecology, culture, and technology through a radical juxtaposition of improbable elements. He is a NEW INC/ONX fellow and was previously an artist resident at the Sundance Institute, NYU ITP, Folly Tree Arboretum, and AFROTECTOPIA. As a freelance motion graphic and VFX artist, he has collaborated on projects for musicians and brands including Marine Serre, The North Face, Gucci, Trippie Redd, Yo Gotti, Sa Babi, and Lil Miquela.
Jeremy is a design faculty at the Southern California Institute of Architecture and holds a Master of Landscape Architecture from Harvard GSD and a Master of Arts from SCI-Arc’s Fiction and Entertainment program.
INSTA / VIM
What if A$AP Rocky designed a landscape? What if he and others like him shaped the future wonders of the world?
I'm a 3D artist and filmmaker who crafts raw and lush landscapes that weave the values of contemporary Black culture into fictional ecologies. I use animation, sound, and media installation to design worlds that bring improbable entities into coherent natural and synthetic systems. Using my training as an architect and landscape architect, I depict modern geomyths that restore Black identity to its origin as an “Earth Shaper”.
I am driven by my desire to challenge predominant narratives about culture, technology, and ecology. My work blurs the distinction between humans, machines, plants, and animals by placing them in productive friction and embracing the novelties that emerge. As a result, each project forces us to question our relationship to its various elements and the status quo. Collectively, my work frontiers new landscape mythologies that offer inclusive ways of engaging in discourse on climate/ environment and how we process its changes.
