Through his speculative transmedia universe, Mojo, Kamal develops interconnected ecologies and landscapes shaped by Black cultural practices. Rendered through a lens of mythic science fiction, these environments examine how cultural identities, meanings, and myths shape—and are reshaped by—technological and ecological systems. Kamal treats the digital realm as a space for creating new geomyths that recontextualize overlooked values and reimagine how environmental futures are represented.
Kamal’s work has appeared internationally at the Seoul Arts Center, Korea (2025), Lentos Kunstmuseum, Linz (2024), the 18th Venice Architecture Biennale, and others.
He was a finalist for the Lumen Prize 2025 Moving image and Climate and Nature categories. Kamal is the recepient of the Prix Ars Electronica Award of Distinction for New Animation (2024) and in 2025 he won the Black Public Media PitchBLACK Immersive Award.
Since 2019, Kamal has lectured and talked at several renouned insititutions from Harvard Graduate School of Design (2025), University of the Arts London (2024), UPenn Stuart Weitzman School of Design (2024), Columbia University GSAAP (2023), Southern California Institute of Architecture (2020), UCLA (2024), Fiber Festival, Amsterdam (2021).
